Herbert Siquenza - CULTURE CLASH
Herbert Siquenza came center stage with Mark Gordon to talk about 25 years of Culture Clash and how they plan to take on the military-industrial complex, circa 421 B.C. in an adaptation of Aristophanes' PEACE
ABOUT PEACE
In 421 B.C., the 27-year-old comic playwright Aristophanes launched a ribald and scathing theatrical assault on Athens' entrenched "military-industrial complex." High on Mount Olympus, the ogre War has imprisoned the goddess Peace and holds sway over all of Greece; while on Earth below, a small band of rustic patriots hatch a daring plot to engineer her rescue and restore Peace to the land. Collaborating with Culture Clash on this Getty-commissioned adaptation of Aristophanes' PEACE is playwright and dramaturge John Glore. Appearing alongside the three-man troupe are two luminaries of the Los Angeles' theater scene, comedic actors John Fleck and Amy Hill, with music by an onstage trio of singing musicians led by Mariachi Divas' Suzanne Garcia. Audiences should be prepared for scathing satire, abundant profanity, and ribald humor not suitable for children.
ABOUT CULTURE CLASH
Culture Clash is the nation's most prominent Chicano-Latino performance troupe. For 25 years, writer-actors Richard Montoya, Ric Salinas, and Herbert Siquenza have imitated the workings of social anthropologists, digging deep into America's racialized culture to formulate their outrageous brand of satire. PEACE is their second dramatic encounter with Aristophanes at the Getty Villa.
