CELTIC ARTS CENTER PRESENTS CHRISTMAS O’CAROL STARTING DECEMBER 2
Dublin, Ireland. Christmas Eve. Auld Ebenezer Scruasha will meet three spirited visitors ‘ere the night is through…
Celtic lore is filled with tales of angels, fairies, ghosts and spirits who come out of hiding in the chill of winter to make visitations among the living. The “good people,” as they were known, would test individuals for their generosity. Those who did not pass frequently found themselves haunted into a more charitable change of heart.
Such stories were around centuries before Charles Dickens penned his similar narrative, A Christmas Carol. And so it came to pass that last winter, Dan Conroy (now the artistic director of the Celtic Arts Center) and Michael Sean McGuinness (now its Director of Education) seized upon on the idea presented to them by fellow actor Dan Harper to present an Irish adaptation of the tale. They quickly set pen to paper, and within a few short weeks they emerged with CHRISTMAS O’CAROL—a unique adaptation of the Dickens classic infused with ancient Irish language, legend, poetry, song, and music. Together with a running time of just one hour, the show immediately became perfect holiday fare for family audiences.
CHRISTMAS O’CAROL was mounted so quickly that there was scant opportunity for press coverage. Still, enthusiastic audiences quickly embraced it and the limited run was sold out. Now, CHRISTMAS O’CAROL returns to the Celtic Arts Center for a lengthier stay, and most of the original cast returns with it. CHRISTMAS O’CAROL opens Friday, 2 December, and runs thru Friday, 23 December with five performances a week.
