“THE CATHOLIC GIRL’S GUIDE TO LOSING YOUR VIRGINITY” OPENS AT HUDSON GUILD THEATRE ON JANUARY 25, 2006
Lizzy, age 24, is a good Catholic girl. In fact, she’s gooder than good. She’s still a virgin. When her Father Confessor is arrested for soliciting prostitutes for the third time, she figures out that even her priest has a better sex life than she does, and that she is missing out on a vital and important part of her life. Let she who is without sin, begin. Lizzy resolves to Do The Deed before her 25th birthday. Sounds easy, no? Well, no. Her chaste upbringing orients her to finding somebody really unique and special for her First Time. Her quest for her handsome prince puts her on a collision course with a plague of toads. Then, one special day, she meets Max….
Writer Annie Hendy manages to pull off this material in a manner that is hilarious and sexy but not smutty. Ms. Hendy also plays Lizzy. The versatile David Zelina plays all the other characters (male and female).
Annie Hendy is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati, College-Conservatory of Music (CCM). She appeared off-Broadway in “Far Away” and locally in “Angry Jellow Bubbles.” Ms. Hendy co-wrote the screenplay for “Holy T’s” with Eydie Faye and Rick Coons.
David Zelina, also a CCM graduate, was a TV personality and host on the WB affiliate in Cincinatti before coming to L.A. His L.A. stage credits include “Antigone” at the Knightsbridge and “9 Layer Dipz” at The Actors’ Lab. He appears in several films now on DVD including “Sasquatch Hunters,” “Scarecrow Gone Wild,” and “Shiner” and will soon appear in the new film “Triloquist.” An expert with swords and fighting arts, he choreographs combat for stage and film.
Richard E. Hess directs. He is well-known locally for having directed “The Pages of My Diary That I’d Rather Not Read” by CCM graduate Eydie Faye (those CCM folks are a talented bunch) which ran for months at the Complex and the Hudson, and received a slew of L.A. Weekly Theatre Award nominations. He is Drama Chair at CCM and previously taught for years on the Conservatory faculty of the Chautauqua Institution. Also in L.A., he directed “Besame Mucho, O.K., That’s Enough.” His numerous Cincinnati-area directing credits include “The Drawer Boy,” “Hello, Dolly!,” “Proof,” “A Little Night Music,” and many more.
“The Catholic Girl’s Guide to Losing Your Virginity.” World Premiere engagement of a new comedy. Written and produced by Annie Hendy. Directed by Richard E. Hess. Starring Annie Hendy and David Zelina.
