"In Other Words: Artists Talk About Life and Work" by Anthony DeCurtis
Rolling Stone contributing editor Anthony DeCurtis has long been among the best and most visible writers about popular music in the country. Now, in a new collection of his work, he provides readers with the most intimate and revealing interviews of his 25-year career. In Other Words: Artists Talk About Life and Work includes gripping conversations with music legends, groundbreaking movie directors, artistic provocateurs, up-and-coming talents and visionary songwriters. A review in the New York Post rightly calls it “an essential book for anyone fascinated by the creative process.”
Thirty to 40 percent of the material in In Other Words is entirely new and unpublished until now. Many of the interviews, which appeared in Rolling Stone, the New York Times and other publications, have been significantly expanded. DeCurtis has written new introductions that tell the story behind the story, transforming the book into an episodic memoir of life on the front lines of cultural journalism. The artists, meanwhile, all speak with rare candor about their work, their personal lives the public rarely sees, and their relationships with their collaborators. Readers will feel as if they are shooting back a few too many rounds of Rebel Yell with Keith Richards, as DeCurtis did, or sitting at Friar Park with George Harrison or in a quiet room alone with some of the most legendary entertainers of our time.
The book consists of 39 interviews. Some of the featured artists are Paul McCartney, Billy Joel, Elton John, Bruce Springsteen, Bono, Al Pacino, Johnny Cash, Robert Redford, David Bowie, Rufus Wainwright, Rosanne Cash, the Eagles, Martin Scorsese and Iggy Pop.
